The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the subject of monthly debates at the Security Council. Issues relating to Lebanon are also discussed during these debates. The Palestinian issue is also extensively discussed at the General Assembly, since around 20 resolutions, at the initiative of the Palestinian delegation, are adopted there every year. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon is tasked with monitoring the border with Israel; France provides a major contingent of Blue Helmets to this force.

A civil assistance mission is present in Iraq and aims to support the process of national reconciliation and reconstruction.

Four resolutions of sanctions have been adopted against Iran since 2006 due to its nuclear program. A sanctions committee ensures the proper implementation of the measures adopted by the Security Council.

The Security Council seized itself of the situation in Libya, following the violence perpetrated against civilians during protests against the regime.
