France is very active on issues relating to the rule of law: at the Security Council, which addresses situations in which serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights are committed (Protection of civilians, fight against the recruitment of child soldiers) and at the General Assembly (issues relating to human rights, to the freedom of religion etc.). France defends the concept of Responsibility to Protect which is gradually gaining traction in international law. It is committed to the fight against impunity, with its support for international criminal justice. It promotes the principle of non-discrimination, in particular regarding sexual orientation.
