France is concerned about the continued fighting between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) in Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan states. It calls on the parties to negotiate as swiftly as possible an agreement on the cessation of hostilities and to find a political solution to this crisis, as requested repeatedly by the African Union and the UN Security Council.
France also calls on the parties to allow humanitarian assistance to be delivered to these two regions, in accordance with the commitment made by the Sudanese government and the SPLM-N in August 2012 to the African Union, the Arab League and the United Nations.
France is also concerned by the lack of progress with respect to the implementation of the agreements of September 27, 2012, between Sudan and South Sudan and the reports of a buildup of troops at the border. It urges the authorities of both countries to immediately implement the demilitarized zone along the border and to deploy the observers as set forth in the agreements of September 2012.
