25 October 2013 - Communiqué of the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations

Denomination of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
(New York, 25 October 2013)

A meeting was held today between representatives of Greece and representatives of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia around Mr Nimetz, personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the talks between the two parties.

France regrets the stalemate between the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece in their discussions on the denomination of FYROM, which is detrimental to good neighborly relations in the region.

The French authorities support the efforts of Mr. Nimetz in finding a solution to the issue of the denomination of FYROM. They believe that a mutually acceptable solution must be found quickly, under the auspices of the United Nations, through dialogue and compromise.
