Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will meet with the International Commission of Inquiry on human rights violations in Syria tomorrow.
In a context of increased violence on the part of the regime and its allies, this meeting will provide an opportunity to stress the need to ensure respect for human rights and international humanitarian law by all of the parties to the conflict, in order to make progress toward finding a just and lasting political solution.
The participants will discuss the commission’s work since the publication of its most recent report in March, the conditions for implementing its mandate and its assessment of developments.
In particular, the meeting will make it possible to reaffirm France’s attachment to the fight against impunity. The commission’s work is a first step toward establishing the truth and justice needed to facilitate reconciliation between the Syrian people.
