Statement by Mr. Alain Juppé, ministre d’Etat, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs
I condemn in the strongest terms the new attack led by the Syrian regime against the people of Homs.
Far from putting an end to their policy of repression, the Syrian authorities have gone one step further into savagery. The massacre of Homs is a crime against humanity, for which its perpetrators will be held accountable.
This outburst of violence underscores the urgency for the United Nations Security Council to break its silence by condemning the perpetrators of this crime and pave the way for the implementation of the political plan of the Arab League.
The international community must recognize and support the right of the Syrian people to freedom, security, and to choose its political future.
Those that would impede the adoption of such a resolution would take a heavy responsibility before history.
