9 July 2011 - Independence of the Republic of South Sudan

On 9 July 2011, the Republic of South Sudan becomes independent. The Security Council will recommend to the General Assembly its admission as a member of the United Nations on 13 July 2011. The General Assembly will vote by a majority of two thirds to admit the Republic of South Sudan as its 193rd Member State.
