France utterly condemns the attack against the Italian UNIFIL contingent, which injured 6 people to the north of Sidon in southern Lebanon. All our thoughts are with the families of the soldiers.
France demands that full light be shed on this attack. In this respect we welcome the Lebanese armed force’s cooperation with UNIFIL with respect to conducting this inquiry. We urge the Lebanese authorities to do everything to bring those responsible for this crime to justice.
We cannot tolerate such a breach of the safety of military personnel deployed within the framework of a UN peacekeeping operation who are acting in accordance with Security Council resolutions 1701 and 1937 and at the request of the Lebanese government. We reaffirm that the security and freedom of movement of the UNIFIL soldiers must be guaranteed.
France reaffirms its commitment to the security, stability, independence and sovereignty of Lebanon.
