At the request of the French President, Secretary of State responsible for French nationals living abroad Edouard Courtial will represent France at the high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, particularly the African Union.
This debate will be chaired by South African President Jacob Zuma, who launched this initiative as South Africa has taken the presidency of the Security Council for January.
Given the importance of this meeting and the close involvement of France in peace and security in Africa, France has decided to be represented at ministerial level. Nearly two thirds of UN peacekeeping operations decided by the Security Council are deployed in Africa. Nearly 80% of the UN peacekeepers are serving on the African continent.
Edouard Courtial will take this opportunity to meet with the French community at the Consulate General of France in New York.
